

Writers Project

The ability to write is essential to entrenching theoretical and analytic skills. Jozi Book Fair is committed to developing emerging writers who are social and culturally relevant to the majority of South Africans.
Aims of the Writer's Project
-
To develop a community of emerging writers, established writers deserving of wider recognition and readers of literacy writing in order to develop as large an audience as possible for those writers,

Assist various social movements with training to develop their own newsletters, thereby establishing a new layer of citizen journalists,
-
Establish reading circles in schools and community libraries to encourage the development of consistent reading and analysis,
-
Provide reading and writing skills workshops,
-
Publication of writing, online and in “ My Class” newsletter, to encourage writing,
-
Encourage indigenous language reading, writing and publishing and
-
Nurture and develop a new generation of writers of diverse local stories
Activities of the Project

Host reading skills workshops

Facilitate meeting between writers and small publishers

Meet the author sessions in which developing writers meet published authors who provide comment and direction to their writings

Media training workshops for media activists
